In a strategic move to bolster the leadership of tertiary institutions in Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde has appointed Dr. Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan, the immediate past Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FirstBank Group, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan.
The appointment, which takes immediate effect, was conveyed through an official letter signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Otunba Segun Ogunwuyi. This development is widely regarded as an opportunity for Dr. Adeduntan, an accomplished banker with extensive local and international experience, to bring his expertise and professional network to the advancement of the institution.
Joining Dr. Adeduntan on the Governing Council are:
- Hon. Seyi Joseph Adisa – Former House of Assembly member
- Samson Olakunle Ojoawo
- Dr. Aminat Adekemi
- Prof. Mojeed Kolawole Akinsanya
Governor Makinde also reaffirmed his commitment to educational excellence with key reappointments. Professor Ayodeji Omole was reappointed as the Chairman of the Governing Council of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), alongside members Mrs. Titlayomi Ahmadu, Mr. Idowu Olukunle Adeosun, Mr. Jelili Bamidele, and Dr. Teslim Adediran.
Additionally, Professor Kazeem Adekunle Adebiyi was appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, completing the tenure of the late Professor Abiodun Adebowale Ojo.
Dr. Adeduntan, who retired from First Bank of Nigeria Limited in April 2024, is celebrated for his transformative leadership in the banking sector. His remarkable contributions earned him recognition as African Banker of the Year (2018) by the African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Award.
His appointment underscores Governor Makinde’s strategic vision of strengthening higher institutions in Oyo State by leveraging the expertise of industry leaders to drive innovation, excellence, and sustainable development.
