MAPOLY Alumni Lagos Elects Gafar Odubote as Chairman, Unveils Visionary Agenda*

The Lagos Chapter of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Alumni Association has embarked on a transformative era with the election of Mr Gafar Odubote as Chairman, alongside 11 other executive members. The election, held last Saturday in Lagos as part of the association’s Biennial General Meeting (BGM), witnessed an impressive turnout of members from diverse professional backgrounds.

The newly elected Chairman expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him. He pledged to revitalise alumni engagement by expanding outreach efforts and fostering active participation across various sectors. Mr Odubote also unveiled plans to establish a structured funding framework to support impactful alumni projects, while introducing mentorship programmes, networking opportunities, and business support initiatives to empower members.

Outlining his administration’s priorities, Mr Gafar Odubote emphasised the importance of infrastructural development, scholarships, and student mentorship. He assured members of his commitment to enhancing the association’s visibility and influence within and beyond the MAPOLY community. He further called on all members to unite in achieving the association’s collective aspirations.

The outgoing Chairman, Mr Olusegun Rufus, presented a comprehensive handover report, reflecting on the chapter’s resilience in the face of challenges. He acknowledged that alumni dues and voluntary fundraising efforts had sustained the association’s activities over the years. Mr Rufus urged the new leadership to build on past achievements and pledged his unwavering support whenever needed.

Dr Olalekan Otun, a former National President and pioneer Chairman of the Lagos Chapter, expressed confidence in the newly elected leadership. He commended their energy and dedication, describing them as harbingers of progress for the association. Dr Otun also encouraged MAPOLY alumni nationwide to invest in their alma mater through initiatives such as hostel construction and other strategic partnerships capable of propelling the 46-year-old institution to greater heights.

The newly elected executive members include Ms Olufadeke Omo-Omorodion (Vice Chairperson), Mr Steven Eyanimo (Secretary), Mr Ayodokun Waheed (Assistant Secretary), Mr Adekunle Okunowo (Treasurer), Mr Ibubukun Awoseye (Financial Secretary), Mr Tobilola Adeboye (Assistant Financial Secretary), Mr Olusegun Koiki (Public Relations Officer), Ms Omowunmi Akisanmi (Welfare Director), and Ms Olushola Adewunmi (Chief Whip). Additionally, Pastor Samuel Kehinde and Mr Olusegun Rufus were elected as Ex-Officio members.

The election was overseen by Mr Tolu Ojemuyiwa, a former Chapter Chairman and the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), alongside Alhaji Goke Ishola, representing the national body, and Hon Cyrus Johnson. Mr Ojemuyiwa commended the smooth and transparent electoral process, which adhered strictly to constitutional provisions.

The event attracted notable alumni, including Hon Lanre Oyegbola, Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, alongside other distinguished professionals from a wide array of industries. With a renewed mandate, the new leadership is set to redefine alumni engagement, fostering stronger connections and driving impactful contributions to both the association and the broader MAPOLY community.
