Renowned energy expert and former Minister of Power, Professor Barth Nnaji, is set to headline the 2025 Bullion Lecture on April 10 at The Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos. Under the theme, “Architecting the Energy Sector for Nigeria’s $1-Trillion Economy Vision,” Nnaji will provide strategic insights into how Nigeria can harness its energy resources to drive sustainable economic growth.

As the Founder and CEO of Geometric Power Limited—the first private power company in Nigeria—Nnaji has been at the forefront of innovative solutions in the energy sector. His contributions to Nigeria’s power reforms remain monumental, particularly his role in the privatization and unbundling of the National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), which paved the way for a more competitive and efficient power industry.

Beyond his tenure as Minister of Power from 2011 to 2012, Nnaji’s influence spans decades. Appointed as a member of the National Energy Council in 2009, he also served as Special Adviser to the President on Power and chaired the Presidential Task Force on Power. His strategic leadership was pivotal in shaping policies aimed at stabilizing and improving Nigeria’s electricity supply.

With a distinguished academic career as a Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Massachusetts and the University of Pittsburgh, Nnaji has garnered numerous accolades, including Nigeria’s highest honors—Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), and the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM).

His legacy in the energy sector is not just about policy and privatization but also about pioneering new frontiers. Geometric Power’s Aba Integrated Power Project is a testament to his visionary leadership, providing dedicated power supply to industries and businesses in southeastern Nigeria.

The 2025 Bullion Lecture, organized by the Centre for Financial Journalism, promises to be a landmark event, with key industry leaders such as Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power, serving as the Special Guest of Honour. Tolulope Longe, National President of Women in Energy Oil and Gas (WEOG), will chair the event, while Sir Victor Okoronkwo, Group Managing Director of Aiteo E&P, and Dr. Ogho Okiti, CEO of ThinkBusiness Africa, will provide expert analysis as panelists.

The gathering will attract policymakers, industry captains, financial experts, academics, and international stakeholders, all eager to engage in discussions that could redefine Nigeria’s energy trajectory. As the nation looks towards a $1-trillion economy, Nnaji’s reflections and forward-thinking strategies may well be the blueprint for a sustainable and prosperous energy future.
