During a pre-AGM media briefing in Lagos, Nigerian Breweries Plc management unveiled a pivotal shift in its operational strategies and ownership structure. The company’s Managing Director/CEO, Mr. Hans Essadi, shared insights into the company’s dedication to local sourcing, revealing that 42.8% of its total raw materials in 2024 were sourced locally. This strategic move has played a vital role in strengthening Nigeria’s agricultural value chains, directly benefiting local farming communities.
A key highlight of the company’s local sourcing initiative is its comprehensive support for sorghum farmers. Over 100 sorghum farmers have received vital training and resources, enabling them to achieve significantly better yields and improve their livelihoods. This empowerment not only enhances their economic opportunities but also contributes to the overall development of the agricultural sector.
Nigerian Breweries’ commitment to fostering sustainable growth is evident in its ongoing investments in the local development, improvement, and commercialization of agricultural raw materials. The company has expanded its collaboration with both local and international research institutes to assess and improve the performance of registered local sorghum varieties. Additionally, efforts are underway to develop new sorghum varieties that meet industry standards while offering higher yields for farmers.
To maximize the positive impact of local sourcing, Nigerian Breweries has continually expanded its sorghum cultivation and sourcing areas, reaching out to new communities and creating further opportunities for local farmers. This growth strategy reflects the company’s broader vision of supporting local agriculture while ensuring a stable, sustainable supply of raw materials for its production needs.
