In a bold stride that reaffirms its reputation as Africa’s aviation trailblazer, Ethiopian Airlines has announced the launch of a new passenger flight service to Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, set to commence operations on June 1, 2025. This move marks not just another route expansion but a deepening of a legacy that began nearly half a century ago.
Reflecting on its storied presence in the Middle East, Ethiopian Airlines’ relationship with the UAE dates back to 1979, when the airline introduced flights to Dubai. Over the years, it has built a robust network across the region, operating over 100 weekly flights to more than 17 destinations—a testament to the airline’s strategic vision and consistency.
The new Sharjah service—operating four times weekly—aims to provide more access to one of the UAE’s most dynamic cities, famed for its cultural wealth and business potential. Flight ET 622 will depart Addis Ababa (ADD) every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 10:05 p.m., arriving in Sharjah (SHJ) at 03:25 a.m. Return flights, ET 623, will leave Sharjah every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 04:25 a.m., touching down in Addis Ababa at 07:45 a.m.
Serviced by the cutting-edge Boeing 737 MAX, this route promises a blend of efficiency, safety, and passenger comfort that reflects the airline’s unwavering commitment to excellence.
Speaking on the new development, Mesfin Tasew, Group CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, stated:
“We are excited to expand our passenger flight network in the U.A.E. with the addition of Sharjah, a key economic hub in the United Arab Emirates. This new service complements our existing cargo operations and strengthens our connectivity to the Middle East. With enhanced travel options, our customers can now explore the UAE’s rich cultural heritage and dynamic business landscape with greater convenience.”

This strategic addition to the airline’s schedule not only enhances Ethiopia’s global gateway status but also reinforces bilateral ties between Ethiopia and the UAE through improved connectivity, trade facilitation, and cultural exchange.
As Ethiopian Airlines continues to soar as Africa’s largest and fastest-growing airline brand, the launch of the Sharjah route marks another milestone in its enduring journey—rooted in history, yet always reaching for new horizons.
