In a powerful celebration of journalistic excellence, Continental Reinsurance Plc, a leading Pan-African reinsurer, marked the 10th anniversary of the Pan-African Re/Insurance Journalism Awards, spotlighting the vital role of African journalists in reshaping public perception and understanding of insurance across the continent. The milestone event coincided with the company’s 10th CEO Summit, reinforcing its decade-long commitment to thought leadership and impactful communication in the insurance sector.
This landmark edition recorded over 150 entries from 19 African countries, representing a 29% increase from the previous year and cutting across Anglophone, Francophone, and Arabic-speaking regions. Journalists submitted stories that tackled urgent and complex issues like climate change, health coverage, cyber threats, and road safety—underscoring the role of storytelling in demystifying insurance for African communities.
Kenya’s Patrick Alushula, a journalist with the Nation Media Group, emerged as the Overall Winner and clinched the English Print Category for his compelling feature on the surge in cyber insurance uptake in Kenya. His piece expertly analyzed how rising data breach penalties are prompting businesses to turn to insurance as a strategic safeguard.
