In a powerful continuation of its 2025 Annual National Food Intervention Programme, the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) brought hope and nourishment to 50,000 vulnerable families across Kebbi and Gombe States through the donation of rice during the holy month of Ramadan.

In Kebbi State, the initiative was launched in Aliero Local Government Area, where the State Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaji Zayyanu Aliero, praised the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to humanitarian service. “This gesture is deeply aligned with the values of Alhaji Aliko Dangote—to uplift and support the most vulnerable in our society,” he stated.

Aliero highlighted the collaborative effort between the state and the foundation to ensure effective delivery to the poorest households across the 21 local government areas (LGAs) of the state. From persons living with disabilities to traditional rulers, widows, and other underserved groups, the rice distribution followed a precise and inclusive allocation model designed to touch every segment of the needy population.

He explained that 20 LGAs would each receive 1,000 bags of rice, while Birnin Kebbi LGA, the most populous, would receive 3,000 bags. “This is the second time ADF is reaching out to our people in such an impactful way,” Aliero said.

Local government chairmen and representatives, including Alhaji Abubakar Jadi and Alhaji Atiku Ahmad-Mandiya, expressed gratitude on behalf of their communities and called for continuous prayers for the state and national leadership.

Alhaji Anas Gwandu, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, voiced heartfelt appreciation to Alhaji Dangote. “This gesture will go a long way in relieving the burdens of over 600,000 people living with disabilities and other vulnerable individuals in Kebbi State. We urge more philanthropists to follow this example,” he said.

Meanwhile, in Gombe State, the food aid was officially handed over to the government, represented by the Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abubakar Inuwa Kari, on behalf of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya. The state leadership acknowledged the timeliness of the donation, aligning it with ongoing efforts to cushion the economic realities faced by disadvantaged communities.

“Dangote Foundation’s generosity reaffirms our shared commitment to humanitarian support,” Governor Yahaya stated, adding that the structured and transparent distribution process—successfully implemented in past relief exercises—would once again guide the allocation.

To promote fairness, the governor directed that this round of food palliatives be distributed to a new group of beneficiaries, ensuring that more families benefit from the foundation’s kindness.

Executive Secretary of Gombe State Emergency Management Agency, Alhaji Abdullahi Haruna, reaffirmed that every bag would reach those it was meant for. Local government leaders and stakeholders, including Barr. Sani Ahmad Haruna of Gombe LGA, echoed their commitment to an efficient and transparent process.

The distribution event brought together faith leaders, civil society groups, and disability associations. Representatives from Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and civil society organizations all hailed the Aliko Dangote Foundation for its thoughtful and inclusive outreach.

“Food insecurity and economic strain have pushed many to the brink. This intervention couldn’t have come at a better time,” said Ibrahim Yusuf of Gombe Network of Civil Society (GONET).

Symbolically, six key organisations—JNI, CAN, FOMWAN, PWDs, CSOs, and Hisbah—received allocations of rice during the ceremony, marking the start of the full-scale distribution across LGAs, wards, and polling units.

The 2025 initiative is not just a palliative gesture—it is a powerful reminder of what responsible philanthropy can achieve when it meets grassroots organization and government collaboration. It is a call to action for all well-meaning individuals and institutions to uplift the vulnerable and help build a more resilient and compassionate society.
