Oyetola Appoints Dr. Bolaji Akinola as Media Adviser to Drive Blue Economy Vision

In a decisive move to enhance strategic communication within the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, the Honourable Minister, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola (CON), has appointed seasoned maritime journalist and communications strategist, Dr. Bolaji Akinola, as his new Adviser on Media and Communications.

Dr. Akinola brings to the role over 25 years of unmatched experience in maritime journalism, public relations, and corporate communication. He is a former President of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) and currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Ships & Ports Communication Company, a frontline media and public relations firm in the maritime sector.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Akinola has consistently championed discourse on port reforms, maritime security, shipping development, and Nigeria’s Blue Economy potential. His deep understanding of industry dynamics has earned him wide recognition as one of Nigeria’s foremost maritime thought leaders.

Akinola holds a Doctorate in Media and Communications from the Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos. He also holds two Master’s degrees: an MBA from the Lagos Business School and a Master of Transport Management from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho. He is affiliated with several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the Chartered Institute of Arbitration (UK), and the Maritime Arbitrators Association of Nigeria (MAAN). His previous service as Executive Secretary of NIMAREX (2011–2014) and his fellowship status in both the Nigerian Institute of Shipping (FNIS) and the Chartered Institute of Shipping of Nigeria (FCISN) further reinforce his deep industry credibility.

In his new position, Dr. Akinola will be tasked with crafting and executing strategic communication plans, managing media relations, and effectively projecting the Ministry’s policies and initiatives. His appointment aligns with Minister Oyetola’s agenda to position the Marine and Blue Economy as a critical pillar of Nigeria’s economic transformation.

“The Honourable Minister’s vision for the Marine and Blue Economy is bold and transformative,” Dr. Akinola said in response to his appointment. “I am deeply honoured by his trust and look forward to leveraging my experience to ensure that the Ministry’s work resonates with stakeholders and the wider public. With his proven track record and media acumen, he is expected to play a key role in amplifying the Ministry’s voice and driving stakeholder alignment in the Blue Economy space.
