In a remarkable achievement, Edward Omoruyi Osagie, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), was named the most outstanding spokesperson in the Marine and Blue Economy sector at the prestigious 2025 National Spokespersons’ Awards (NSAwards). The event, which took place on April 16, 2025, in Abuja, celebrated Osagie’s exceptional communication expertise and his unwavering commitment to promoting NIMASA’s image.
The NSAwards brought together 62 finalists across 21 competitive categories, with Osagie standing out in a particularly competitive field. He was shortlisted for three categories: Spokesperson of the Year, Outstanding Spokesperson (Crisis Management – Public Sector), and the Marine and Blue Economy Sector. Osagie’s excellence shone through as he triumphed in the Marine and Blue Economy Sector category, surpassing distinguished industry leaders like Ikechukwu Onyemekara of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and Muyiwa Akande of Sifax Group.
Other notable winners at the ceremony included Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), who was named Outstanding Federal Government Spokesperson of the Year. Olufemi Soneye of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) earned the Distinguished Spokesperson of the Year (Oil and Gas) award, while the Nigerian Customs Service team was honored as the Best Corporate Spokesperson Team.
The Adjudication Committee’s Chairman, Dr. Shaibu Husseini, commended all nominees for their remarkable communication abilities and emphasized the rigorous, merit-based selection process. Joshua Audu Gana, a Member of the House of Representatives, congratulated the winners and highlighted the importance of exceptional communicators in shaping public opinion and policy.
In his remarks, the Special Guest of Honor, Akintunde Rotimi Jr., Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, underscored the vital role spokespersons play in policy formation. He called for their involvement in decision-making processes, emphasizing the need for firsthand knowledge to ensure accurate and effective public communication.
The National Spokespersons’ Awards continues to serve as Nigeria’s premier platform for recognizing excellence in public relations, strategic communication, and media management.
