The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has issued a sweeping directive to all banks, ordering the immediate closure of any tax or levy collection accounts not authorised through its TaxPro Max platform.

The TaxPro Max, developed in Nigeria, serves as a one-stop platform for tax administration, covering services such as taxpayer registration, filing, payment processing, and issuance of tax clearance certificates.

In a public notice titled “Directive to Close Unauthorised FIRS Tax Collection Accounts,” and signed by FIRS Chairman Zacch Adedeji, the agency made it clear that the move is part of broader efforts to strengthen efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the nation’s tax collection system. The notice was shared with journalists through his Special Adviser on Media, Dare Adekanmbi.

“Effective immediately, all tax and levy collections on behalf of FIRS must be conducted exclusively through assessments generated on the TaxPro Max platform,” the notice stated.

FIRS directed all participating banks under the FIRS Collection, Remittance, and Reconciliation Scheme to comply fully within the specified timeline.

“We rely on your cooperation to ensure a smooth transition to this centralised system, thereby enhancing transparency and efficiency in tax collection,” the statement emphasised.

FIRS also encouraged taxpayers and stakeholders seeking further clarification or assistance to contact the agency’s Revenue Accounting and Refund Department (RAAD).

The enforcement marks another strong step by the FIRS towards digitising tax administration and eliminating leakages in government revenue collection.
