At a landmark symposium focused on aviation security, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), delivered a compelling goodwill message that underscored the urgency and necessity of securing Nigeria’s airspace through strategic collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
Addressing a distinguished audience of aviation professionals, regulators, and members of the press at the event, Mrs. Kuku expressed her admiration for the initiative spearheaded by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) under the leadership of Captain Chris Najomo. She lauded the symposium’s theme—“Fundamentality of Aviation Security in Achieving the Safe-Skies Goal”—as not only timely but essential to current industry realities.
In her remarks, she acknowledged that the aviation sector is operating in an era defined by rapid technological evolution and increasing security threats. This, she noted, requires an adaptive and resilient security framework. She emphasized that gatherings like this symposium are pivotal for exchanging expertise, harnessing innovation, and cultivating a shared vision for aviation safety.
Highlighting the significance of ICAO’s Annex 17, which governs aviation security standards, Mrs. Kuku reinforced FAAN’s commitment to upholding global best practices. “Our gathering here,” she stated, “goes a long way in promoting security consciousness, fostering collaboration, and enhancing aviation security governance across Nigeria.”
She reiterated the importance of cross-sector collaboration, recognizing the critical roles played by airline operators, regulatory agencies, security operatives, and other stakeholders in fortifying the industry. According to her, FAAN is not just a regulatory partner but a committed driver of reforms that ensure passengers, crew, and the public remain safe in Nigeria’s airports.
Encouraging participants to fully engage in the day’s sessions, she projected that the outcomes would lay a solid foundation for robust aviation security policies. “May the outcome of this symposium lead us ever closer to achieving truly safe skies,” she concluded.
