As part of its robust Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative tagged ‘Customs Cares’, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has commissioned a fully renovated Local Authority Primary School and a revitalised Primary Healthcare Centre in Sagbokoji, a riverine community in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, was led by the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, who underscored the Service’s dedication to uplifting host communities through projects that target essential sectors like education and healthcare.
“We are undertaking projects that will have direct impact on our schools and our students,” CGC Adeniyi said during the event. “We’ve brought school bags, exercise books, textbooks, and sandals for all the pupils. Beyond learning materials, we recognised infrastructural deficits and have responded by fully renovating the school. I am glad that, working through the Apapa Command and our supportive stakeholders, we’ve delivered on this promise.”
He further stressed that healthcare is a critical pillar of the Service’s outreach efforts. “We know the needs of this community exceed what we have done today, but this is a foundational step toward a lasting partnership with Sagbokoji,” he added.
The Customs Area Controller of Apapa Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, echoed the CGC’s sentiments, describing the project as a manifestation of compassion and responsibility.
“In the past four weeks, this site has been abuzz with activity—day and night. The dedication of our officers and stakeholders has brought this vision to life,” Olomu said. “This is beyond trade facilitation and revenue; it is about giving back meaningfully to communities where we operate.”
The gesture drew commendation from community leaders and stakeholders, including the Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin LGA, Engr. Valentine Buraimoh, who described the intervention as a historic first.
“This is the first time uniformed men in positions of authority are delivering such impactful projects to our community,” Buraimoh said. “I sincerely thank the Nigeria Customs Service for renovating both our school and healthcare facility.”
Headmaster of LA Primary School, Oladeyo Emmanuel, praised the intervention, stating that the new look of the school would significantly boost teacher morale and student motivation.
The event concluded with the official ribbon-cutting ceremony and the distribution of educational materials to pupils, marking a new chapter of hope and development for the Sagbokoji community.
