The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has issued a renewed warning to the general public over the activities of fraudsters peddling fake contract awards, grants, loans, and other financial offers purportedly linked to the apex bank.

In a public advisory released on Monday, Mrs. Hakama Sidi Ali, Acting Director of Corporate Communications, said the CBN’s attention has been drawn—yet again—to fraudulent individuals and groups falsely claiming to represent or act on behalf of the Bank.

“Despite an earlier advisory issued on November 18, 2024, through our official channels and news outlets, these schemes have continued to thrive, targeting unsuspecting Nigerians with fictitious narratives of financial benefits allegedly endorsed by the CBN,” she stated.

The apex bank categorically denied any involvement in such offers, clarifying that it does not authorise, license, or appoint any individual, group, or organisation to act as its intermediary for contracts, financial grants, or intervention funds.

“The CBN does not disburse funds or award contracts through unsolicited emails, text messages, phone calls, WhatsApp, or social media platforms,” the statement read. “We also do not require the payment of fees to access contracts, grants, or other interventions, nor do we engage third-party agents to offer financial services on our behalf.”

The Bank urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with individuals or entities making such claims. Victims or targets of such fraudulent schemes are encouraged to report the incidents to law enforcement agencies or the nearest CBN branch office.

Reiterating its commitment to safeguarding the financial interests of Nigerians, the CBN assured that it continues to work in partnership with security agencies to identify, investigate, and prosecute individuals or networks behind such scams.

For more updates and official information, members of the public are advised to rely solely on verified communication channels of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
