Team Nigeria has started the 2025 CAC Track and Para-Track African Continental Championships in Cairo, Egypt, with an impressive bang, securing 4 gold medals in the Tandem B Class category. The team’s journey to this momentous achievement began on Saturday after their final training session at the Abuja Stadium velodrome on Friday.
In the Men’s Tandem B Class, Tijani Daramola, partnered with his pilot Okeyah Bethel Temple, made history by clinching a remarkable double gold, winning both the Sprint and Individual Pursuit events. Not to be outdone, the women’s pairing of Favour Omo and pilot Tawakalt Yekeen mirrored the men’s success with their own stunning double-gold victory in the Women’s Tandem B Class, dominating both the Sprint and Individual Pursuit races.
This extraordinary start to the competition is a direct reflection of Nigeria’s structured investment and elite preparation, spearheaded by the newly established National Sports Commission, led by Chairman Malam Shehu Dikko and Director General Chief Bukola Olawale Olopade. Their unwavering support has been instrumental in the team’s rapid ascent to continental prominence.
“We are not just competing. We are winning with intent, backed by vision and discipline,” remarked Joel O. Akinluwa, the Secretary General of the Cycling Federation of Nigeria, who is reporting live from Cairo.
As the championships continue, Team Nigeria’s medal count is poised to rise further, as more races await. This victory is a testament to the resilience and dedication of Nigerian athletes, as the country continues to shine in the global sporting arena. This is Nigeria on the rise — powered by RHINSE and renewed hope.
The championship’s unfolding moments promise even more triumphs, as Nigeria aims for continued success on the African and global stage.
