The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Entrepreneurship Development in Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Ms. Chalya Shagaya, has applauded Legend Internet Plc for its historic achievement on the Nigerian Exchange, reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to fostering digital innovation and inclusive economic growth.

During a courtesy visit to the company’s headquarters, Ms. Shagaya commended the management team led by Mr. Bruce Ayonote for successfully listing two billion shares on the Nigerian Exchange, a landmark move that added N12.4 billion to the Exchange’s market capitalisation. The listing, the first by an indigenous telecom operator with an indefinite license in Nigeria, was hailed as a bold affirmation of investor confidence in the nation’s expanding digital economy.

“The listing of Legend Internet Plc is not just a corporate milestone—it’s a national triumph,” Ms. Shagaya declared. “It proves that Nigeria’s capital market is accessible to homegrown tech enterprises and signals to the world that the country’s digital sector is vibrant and full of promise.”

She noted that the achievement directly aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritizes digital transformation, entrepreneurship, and a business-friendly environment for sustainable development.

In highlighting Legend Internet Plc’s gender-forward leadership, Ms. Shagaya praised the company for its inclusive executive team, where women occupy a significant number of senior positions. “Legend’s commitment to gender representation in leadership reflects the national aspiration of empowering women as key drivers of economic progress,” she said.

The visit also opened discussions on strategic areas for future collaboration between Legend, its affiliate Suburban, and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President. Potential partnerships include expanding digital infrastructure, designing supportive innovation policies, and launching capacity-building programs for aspiring entrepreneurs across Nigeria.

Ms. Shagaya emphasized the broader impact of such corporate successes on the digital ecosystem, citing opportunities to enhance broadband penetration, stimulate job creation, develop local content, and nurture Nigeria’s next generation of tech innovators. She encouraged Legend to invest further in mentorship, technical training, and entrepreneurship development.

“Legend’s journey is a testament to vision, resilience, and inclusive leadership,” she concluded. “It is precisely the kind of success story this administration is proud to support—and we are eager to work with more companies that are reshaping Nigeria’s digital future.”
