The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has disassociated itself from reports suggesting that an Air Peace aircraft collided with an antelope at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
In a statement released on Monday, May 12, FAAN clarified that the incident in question did not occur at any of its managed facilities. According to the agency, the collision happened at the Asaba International Airport, a facility owned by the Delta State Government and operated privately.
“We sympathise with all parties involved in the unfortunate event. However, it is important to note that the incident did not take place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, or at any airport under FAAN’s management,” said Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection.
FAAN called on media organisations and members of the public to verify all aviation-related information through its official communication channels before dissemination, in order to curb the spread of misinformation.
The authority also directed the public to its verified platforms for accurate and timely updates:
- Twitter: @FAAN_Official
- Facebook: FAANOFFICIAL
- Instagram: faan_official
- Website: www.faan.gov.ng
The clarification comes amid social media speculation linking the animal runway incursion to Abuja airport, sparking concerns over airport safety and wildlife control.
FAAN reiterated its commitment to maintaining safety standards across all airports under its jurisdiction.
