President and Chief Executive of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has offered a compelling reflection on the growing global recognition of Africa’s economic potential, following his participation in a state dinner hosted by the Amir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, in honour of visiting U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday in Doha.

The exclusive dinner, held at the Al Wajbah Palace, brought together prominent figures from government, business, and diplomacy. Among the key highlights of the evening, Dangote said, was the increasing interest from global leaders in Africa’s development trajectory.

In a statement after the event, Dangote described the evening as “a powerful reminder of Africa’s rising influence in global economic and political discourse.”

“The conversations were forward-looking. President Trump was particularly intrigued by the industrial strides being made across the African continent, especially in Nigeria,” he said.

According to Dangote, he shared insights on the Dangote Group’s expansion into oil refining, fertiliser production, and infrastructure, noting how private sector-led initiatives are helping to transform Africa’s economic landscape.

“I emphasised that Africa’s greatest asset is not just its resources, but its people and innovation. Our continent is open for long-term partnerships that are mutually beneficial,” he said.

Dangote noted that the dinner went beyond ceremony, describing it as an avenue for strategic diplomacy and cross-sector collaboration. He added that the Amir of Qatar spoke extensively on the Gulf state’s commitment to food security, energy transition, and investment diversification — areas he believes offer room for meaningful collaboration with African nations.

“The world is undergoing a shift, and Africa must position itself to participate — not as a beneficiary, but as a partner,” he stated.

Dangote said he left the event with renewed optimism and a sense of responsibility to continue advocating for Africa’s place at the global decision-making table.

“We cannot afford to be passive. Africa must show up, contribute, and be counted in global conversations. The dinner in Doha demonstrated that when we do, the world pays attention.”

The gathering marks a significant diplomatic moment, highlighting Africa’s growing relevance in international affairs and the role of high-level business leaders like Dangote in shaping the continent’s narrative on the global stage.
