The World Bank Group Youth Summit made a compelling return for its 12th edition this week, galvanizing over 3,000 young changemakers from across the globe. Held on May 19–20, the summit focused on a timely theme: “Digital Transformation, Creative Industries, and Youth-led Innovation for a Livable Planet.” The event solidified its place as a leading platform for harnessing youth potential in solving the world’s most pressing development challenges.
In a world grappling with climate urgency, economic inequality, and rapid technological disruption, the Summit served as both a reflection and a rallying call. From plenary sessions on data-driven agricultural solutions to thought-provoking discussions on the promise and pitfalls of digital currencies, the two-day event showcased the bold ideas and resilient spirit of a generation determined to lead.
Among the highlights was the Civil Society Organization Roundtable themed “From Awareness to Action: Empowering Young Voices & Partnerships in Development.” The session brought together grassroots youth advocates, multilateral institutions, and global civil society leaders in a candid dialogue on how young people can shift from protest to policy—turning awareness into measurable action.
“This Summit is not just about ideas—it’s about implementation,” emphasized Mariam Diallo, a 26-year-old agritech entrepreneur from Senegal, whose digital platform helps smallholder farmers access real-time weather data and market insights. “We’re not the future; we’re the now.”
The creative industries session lit up conversations around how arts, media, and digital storytelling can amplify development goals, while the fireside chat on digital currencies explored how blockchain-based innovations could bridge financial inclusion gaps for underserved communities.
More than just panels and presentations, the Summit provided young delegates with practical toolkits, mentorships, and real-time collaboration spaces designed to foster sustainable, youth-driven projects long after the closing remarks.
Backed by the World Bank Group, the event reaffirmed its mission to empower youth, equip them with solutions-oriented frameworks, and foster an enduring dialogue between young innovators and global policymakers.
As the curtains closed on this year’s Summit, one message rang clear: the world’s challenges may be complex, but when equipped, inspired, and united, youth are not just participants in change—they are the architects of a livable planet.
All sessions were broadcast with multilingual interpretation, ensuring global accessibility and inclusion.
