SEME CUSTOM COMMAND RAKES IN N847 MILLION REVENUE, INTERCEPT FOREIGN CURRENCIES, DRUGS, OTHERS.

The Seme Customs Command of the Nigeria customs service NCS said on Wednesday that it has intercepted contraband items, illicit drugs worth N622 millions, just as it revealed that the command has made significant achievements in its revenue generation citing the case between between April and may 2025, generating over N847 million. This was disclosed to newsmen on Wednesday by the command’s area Controller Dr Ben Oramalugo at the the command area headquarters Seme.

Addressing journalists, the custom Controller highlighted the command’s unwavering commitment to rev-up revenue generation, trade facilitation and suppression of smuggling, while noting that for the month of April alone, the command generated N847.058million a feat made possible by the dedication of his officers and professionalism.

According to him ” in line with the Federal government economic diversification drive through none oil export, the command facilitated the movement of 2.029 trucks carrying over 88.036 metric tons of made in Nigeria goods, with a Free On Board(FOB) value of N16.9 billion. The National Export Supervision Scheme (NESS) fees from these export stood at N84.5 million underscoring the command role in supporting local industry and boosting the economy ”
On anti smuggling operations, Controller Oramalugo revealed a series of successful interceptions including seizures of foreign coins smuggled into the country. Other seized items include explosive devices concealed in Holy Quran, others includes Cannabis Sativa, Parboiled rice, PMS ,Tomatoes paste, Cartons of tobacco , Bales of second hand clothes, vehicles, Pharmaceutical products, etc, while assuring that the seizures and the arrested culprits will be handed over to the relevant agencies for persecution. He used the opportunity to warn members of the public against the activities of fraudsters posing as Custom officers particularly those claiming to auction seized items through social media platforms, stressing that Nigerian custom service does not conduct sales or auctions through WhatsApp/, Facebook or other unverified pages and therefore advised the public to verify information only through officially recognised platforms
