The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter, have agreed to deepen collaboration aimed at strengthening professionalism, ethics, and strategic communication across public institutions.

The agreement was reached during a courtesy visit by the National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, to the NIPR FCT Secretariat in Abuja on Thursday, May 16, 2025.

Maiwada, who led a delegation from the Service’s Public Relations Unit, said the visit was part of broader efforts to strengthen institutional relationships and promote knowledge sharing between the Customs Service and professional bodies.

“Our goal is to institutionalize professionalism and excellence in public relations not just within the Customs Service, but across the public sector,” he said. He added that the PR Unit under his leadership is driven by youth, innovation, and the consistent support of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

Welcoming the delegation, Chairman of the NIPR FCT Chapter, Mr. Stanley Ogadigo, lauded the Customs Service for its communication reforms, especially under the current administration.

“We commend the Comptroller-General for maintaining a high standard of public engagement. His leadership continues to be a shining example of effective communication in governance,” Ogadigo said.

The NIPR Chairman pledged the Chapter’s full support for initiatives designed to enhance PR practices across public institutions. According to him, the partnership will focus on capacity building, corporate social responsibility, and advocacy for responsible communication.

Discussions during the meeting explored possible areas of collaboration including joint training programmes, workshops, and professional development initiatives tailored to meet the demands of today’s media landscape.

Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to continuous learning and the promotion of ethical standards in public communication, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the credibility of government institutions.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both organizations expressing readiness to pursue joint programmes and campaigns that would raise the bar in public sector communication nationwide.
