More than 1,000 delegates from across Nigeria and beyond have converged in the Akwa Ibom State capital for the 2025 edition of Nigeria Public Relations Week (NPRW), which officially kicked off on Monday, May 19.
Organised by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the five-day event is themed around professional development, cultural celebration, and the evolving role of communication in national development.
Strategic Dialogue Opens Weeklong Activities
Day One began with a high-level stakeholders’ roundtable between PR professionals and traditional rulers—an initiative designed to bridge cultural leadership and contemporary communication strategies. The NPRW Undergraduates Forum also held concurrently, providing a platform for grooming young talents in the industry.
Sports and social interaction were not left out, as delegates gathered for the NPRW Golf Kitty, which added a leisurely spark to the opening day. The evening closed with a Welcome Cocktail and Manifesto Night, where candidates vying for positions on the NIPR national council engaged delegates on their visions.
Governor’s Investiture, Food Festival Headline Day Two
The second day of the conference will feature plenary and breakout sessions led by top practitioners, focusing on emerging trends in public relations. A key highlight will be the investiture of Akwa Ibom State Governor as Patron of the NIPR, in recognition of his support for communication and development initiatives.
The day will conclude with “Ndia Ibom,” a signature food and drink festival showcasing the culinary heritage of the host state.
Focus on Sectoral PR and Creative Expression
Wednesday’s programme will see a deep dive into PR applications across vital sectors such as technology, healthcare, governance, security, and marketing communication. The evening will shine a spotlight on indigenous fashion and identity with the Ethnik Fashion Nite.
Elections and Gala Night to Round off Official Proceedings
Thursday will be devoted to the NIPR Annual General Meeting and the council elections, where new national officers will be elected to lead the Institute. The day will wrap up with a formal Closing Gala and Happy Hour, offering participants a chance to unwind and network.
Tourism and Keynote Address Set for Grand Finale
The final day, Friday, May 23, will feature a guided tour of Akwa Ibom’s tourism sites and cultural landmarks. One of the intellectual high points of the week will be the keynote address by renowned tax expert, Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, delivered during the conference’s opening plenary.
Throughout the week, the event will host an impressive lineup of speakers and panelists including Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura, Mr. Yakubu Lamai, Dr. Omoniyi Ibietan, Mr. Ali-Balogun, Ms. Tolulope Olorundero, Barr.
