The Federal Government has announced plans to sell 753 luxury housing units confiscated from former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele as part of its ongoing efforts to recover looted assets.

On Tuesday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) handed over the seized properties to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja. The EFCC Chairman, Olanipekun Olukoyede, led the handover ceremony.

According to a statement by Salisu Haiba, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Housing, the estate consists of luxury duplexes that will soon be made available for government use and sale to interested Nigerian buyers. The move is aimed at recouping public funds and putting the properties to productive use.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development Ahmed Musa Dangiwa said the housing units would be sold through a transparent and competitive process. He emphasized the government’s commitment to accountability and transparency in the disposal of recovered assets.

“This is a significant step in ensuring that recovered assets are returned to the people and used for national development,” the Minister said. “We are committed to a fair process that allows Nigerians to benefit from these homes.”

The recovery and sale of the housing estate mark one of the largest asset recoveries linked to investigations into financial mismanagement during Emefiele’s tenure at the CBN. The government hopes this initiative will reinforce public trust and support its broader anti-corruption agenda.
