Dr. Ike Neliaku has been re-elected as President and Chairman of the Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), reinforcing his leadership for another two-year term. He is joined by Professor Emmanuel S. Daudara of the Nasarawa Chapter, who also returns as Vice President.

The announcement was made at the Institute’s 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM), held during the Nigeria Public Relations Week (NPRW) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. This year’s edition of NPRW ran from May 19 to 24 at Ceedapeg Hotels and was themed, “Solid Minerals: A Solid Path to Nigeria’s Sustainable Economic Recovery – The Challenge for Public Relations.”

In a widely praised e-voting exercise, 17 new council members were elected, with stakeholders lauding the process as transparent and a benchmark for credible digital elections in Nigeria.

Notably, two prominent Lagos-based professionals secured seats on the new council: Olusegun McMedal, former Chairman of the Lagos Chapter, and Comfort Nwankwo, the incumbent Chapter Chair. Their election was seen as a strategic boost for regional representation and sectoral experience.

Other newly elected members of the NIPR Council include:

  • Akin Agbejule (Niger State)
  • Olubunmi Adedoyin Badejo (FCT)
  • Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha (Anambra)
  • Mallam Bashir Adamu Chedi
  • Dr. Saudat Salah Abdubaqi (Kwara)
  • Comrade Ini Ememobong (Akwa Ibom)
  • Malam Kabir Ali Kobir (Bauchi)
  • Pastor Paulinus Enyidah Nsirim (Rivers)
  • Prof. Sarah Benjamin Lwahas (Plateau)
  • Adaramola Temitope (Ogun State)
  • Dr. Adewale Oladipo Oyekanmi (Osun)
  • Chief Patrick Ogoegbunem Uka (Delta)
  • Sajoh Ahmed Ibrahim (Adamawa)

Dr. Neliaku, a member of the FCT Chapter, has led a wave of institutional reforms since assuming office. One of his administration’s crowning achievements is Nigeria’s successful bid to host the 2026 World Public Relations Forum (WPRF), placing the country on the global communications map.

The NPRW 2025 provided a platform for robust dialogue between public relations practitioners, policymakers, academics, and private sector players. Discussions centered on how the PR profession can contribute to the sustainable development of Nigeria’s economy through strategic communication, especially in underutilized sectors such as solid minerals.

With the renewed mandate and expanded council, NIPR appears poised for another phase of dynamic leadership aimed at strengthening professionalism and thought leadership in the public relations industry.
