Nigeria’s aviation sector recorded a historic milestone as the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), received an Award of Excellence from the International Federation of Aeronautical Information Management Associations (IFAIMA). The recognition came shortly after the Minister declared open the 2025 IFAIMA Global Conference in Abuja.
This year’s event marked the first time Nigeria is hosting the prestigious international gathering since the federation’s inception, underscoring the country’s growing influence in global aviation affairs. The conference brought together experts, regulators, and stakeholders in aeronautical information management from across the world.
In his remarks after receiving the award, Keyamo described the honour as a testament to the administration’s dedication to aviation reforms and modernization. He emphasized the government’s commitment to aligning Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure with international standards through policy reform, strategic investments, and capacity development.
“This award is not just for me—it is for Nigeria,” Keyamo said. “It reflects our strides in improving aeronautical information systems and our commitment to safer skies through technology and innovation.”
The event also highlighted the leadership of Olufunmi Adeyemi, a Nigerian national who currently serves as the Global President of IFAIMA. His role in facilitating Nigeria’s successful bid to host the 2025 conference has been widely applauded as a major achievement for the country’s aviation diplomacy.
Throughout the conference, participants engaged in high-level discussions on the future of aeronautical information management, focusing on innovation, data integrity, and global safety standards. The sessions reinforced the need for stronger collaboration among nations to address challenges in air navigation and information services.
Keyamo noted that the conference aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes positioning Nigeria as the aviation hub of West Africa.
“Nigeria is ready to take its place as a leading force in global aviation. We are laying the groundwork to ensure our skies are not only open but safe, efficient, and technologically advanced,” the Minister said.
The successful hosting of the IFAIMA 2025 Conference is seen as a major win for Nigeria’s aviation industry, signaling its readiness to lead conversations on airspace modernization and international cooperation.
