Shippers’ Council Boss Hails PR Team, Unveils Vision for Stronger Port Regulation

The Executive Secretary/CEO of Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Dr. Akutah Pius, MON has lauded the Council’s Public Relations Unit for its impressive performance as image- maker of the apex maritime regulatory agency.

Dr. Akutah made the commendation at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Public Relations Retreat, with the theme: “Building, Strategic Planning, Sharing Ideas to Stay Ahead of Competition” held recently in Lagos.

The Executive Secretary and CEO of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Akutah Pius, MON, has commended the Council’s Public Relations Unit for its outstanding performance in projecting the image of the agency, describing the team as a key driver of the Council’s visibility and stakeholder engagement.

Dr. Akutah gave the commendation at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Public Relations Retreat held recently in Lagos. Themed “Building, Strategic Planning, Sharing Ideas to Stay Ahead of Competition,” the retreat gathered communications professionals from within the Council to exchange ideas and refine strategies in line with global best practices.

Speaking at the event, the NSC boss noted that the retreat’s theme aligned with the Council’s strategic vision to transition into the Nigerian Port Economic Regulatory Agency (NPERA), a transformation aimed at strengthening port regulation and improving service delivery at the nation’s seaports.

“The NSC has maintained a strong presence in the maritime sector, and the PR Unit has played a critical role in building and sustaining this reputation,” Dr. Akutah said. “As we aim for a broader regulatory mandate, the need for a proactive, strategic, and well-equipped PR team becomes even more vital.”

He stressed the importance of continuous capacity building for PR personnel, urging the team to demonstrate a higher level of commitment and professionalism to match the evolving expectations of the Council’s regulatory role.

Also speaking, the Director and Head of the Strategic Planning & Research Department, Mr. Rotimi Anifowose, encouraged PR staff to embrace self-development and discipline, describing them as key attributes for effective reputation management in a dynamic operating environment.

In her remarks, Assistant Director and Head of the Public Relations Unit, Ms. Rebecca Adamu, expressed appreciation to the Executive Secretary for attending the retreat and for his consistent support for the unit’s activities. She also acknowledged the contributions of the Council’s management team in ensuring the success of the retreat.
