Ethiopian Airlines, Africa’s largest and fastest-growing carrier, has launched a new passenger service to Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, with operations officially commencing on June 1, 2025. The inaugural flight was marked by a vibrant ceremony attended by ambassadors, senior government officials, and executives of the airline.
The new route, which will operate four times weekly, becomes Ethiopian Airlines’ second passenger destination in the UAE, reinforcing its presence in the Gulf region. The service is expected to enhance connectivity between Africa and the Middle East, promoting stronger trade, tourism, and cultural ties.
Speaking at the launch, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, said the new service reflects the airline’s ongoing commitment to deepening regional integration.
“We are truly delighted to connect our passengers to an additional getaway in the UAE with our new flights to Sharjah,” Tasew stated. “We have been connecting the UAE and Africa for nearly five decades now, and the new service will help boost the investment, tourism, diplomatic, and socioeconomic bonds between the two regions.”
Ethiopian Airlines has previously offered cargo services to Sharjah, one of the UAE’s most vibrant cities, known for its rich cultural heritage and dynamic business environment. With the introduction of passenger flights, the airline now provides a convenient travel option for both business and leisure travelers heading to or transiting through Sharjah.
Passengers can expect a seamless travel experience supported by the airline’s modern fleet, state-of-the-art facilities, and award-winning customer service.
Sharjah, the third-largest emirate in the UAE, is widely recognized as the nation’s cultural capital. It also serves as a growing hub for industry, education, and eco-tourism. With strategic access to major international markets, Sharjah is fast becoming a gateway for global companies targeting emerging opportunities across the Middle East and Africa.
The new route is seen as a strategic move for Ethiopian Airlines, further cementing its status as a leading force in African aviation and a key player in promoting cross-regional integration.
With this launch, Ethiopian Airlines now strengthens its role in facilitating economic cooperation and people-to-people exchange between Africa and the Gulf—ushering in new possibilities for collaboration in travel, trade, and investment.
