The ANOH Gas Processing Plant, the largest in Nigeria, has successfully come on stream, delivering 850 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day (mmscfd) from its facilities in Assah, Imo State.

This major milestone,  made possible by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Seplat Energy, NNPC, and the federal government, is expected to ease pressure on domestic energy supply, enable additional power generation, aid industrial growth, and foster greater energy independence in the country.

 From Concept to Reality

The ANOH project traces its roots back nearly a decade ago, when stakeholders recognized the vast potential of stranded natural gas in OML 21, near Ohaji/Egbema in Imo State.

Originally designed to monetize stranded resources and ease bottlenecks in power generation, the project faced numerous technical, financial, and community-related hurdles. Nevertheless, strong collaboration, careful financial structuring, extensive community engagement, and the application of cutting-edge processing technologies kept the venture on track — turning what was once a challenging enterprise into a game-changing piece of energy infrastructure.

Turning Point for Energy Security and Economic Transformation

The start-up of the ANOH Gas Processing Plant marks a significant turning point for Nigeria’s energy landscape. The 850 mmscfd output is expected to ease power supply bottlenecks, enable fertilizer production, and provide feedstock for growing industrial enterprises,  fueling employment, strengthening energy independence, and reducing reliance on liquid fuels.

For many, this moment signals a dramatic step forward in unlocking the country’s vast energy resources, reflecting what can be achieved through purposeful policy, strong partnerships, and a relentless resolve to maximize resources for the greater good.

The successful launch of ANOH resonates far beyond its production numbers; it stands as a symbol of progress, opportunity, and the growing maturity of the Nigerian energy industry, delivering long-term benefits for both the country’s economy and its people.
