The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) is strengthening its collaboration with regulators and carriers across West Africa, following a high-profile visit by its Director General, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., to Asky Airlines in Togo.
The visit, held at Asky’s Lomé headquarters on Thursday, underscores NSIB’s growing role in fostering a culture of operational safety, investigative excellence, and technical training within the region’s rapidly growing aviation industry.
During the meeting, Captain Badeh stressed the need for regulators and industry stakeholders to align their practices and collaborate more closely to keep West Africa’s skies safe. “This visit goes beyond a diplomatic exchange — it’s a deliberate step toward building a strong network of trust, cooperation, and accountability in the region’s aviation sector,” he said.
He explained that NSIB is shifting its focus toward a forward-thinking, data-centric approach. “We aim to detect risks before they manifest, identify patterns before they become accidents, and prevent future tragedy through collaboration and knowledge exchange.”
Mr. Esayas Woldemariam Hailu, Chief Executive Officer of Asky Airlines, welcomed the NSIB delegation and stressed the carrier’s continued readiness to collaborate in strengthening its own safety oversight. “We are honored to host the NSIB team today. Our highest priority is delivering a safe and reliable service, and we remain fully aligned with international best practices to achieve that. Collaborative initiatives with regulators aid us in staying vigilant and adaptable.”
The two organizations also recognized several opportunities for ongoing collaboration — from sharing investigative knowledge and training programs to developing collective strategies for strengthening safety across the region’s growing air transport network.
Mrs. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, NSIB’s Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance, explained that this forward-focused engagement signals a new era for integrated safety oversight in West Africa — delivering greater peace of mind for passengers and stakeholders alike.
