Renowned development journalist and media anchor, Sunday Micheal Ogwu, played a prominent role in two major high-level engagements this year—serving as a leading voice in advancing conversations around Africa’s space economy and Nigeria’s development financing framework.
Ogwu was the Lead Anchor of the second edition of the Africa Space Economy Conference & Exhibition 2025, held in Lagos, which brought together stakeholders across government, private sector, and academia to explore opportunities for commercializing space technology. The conference focused on how Africa can harness satellite infrastructure, climate monitoring systems, and space-based innovations to drive economic growth and sustainable development.
In addition to anchoring the plenary, Ogwu moderated a key panel session on the commercialization of space technologies, spotlighting investment prospects, regulatory frameworks, and the role of public-private partnerships in accelerating Africa’s presence in the global space economy.
Shortly after, Ogwu took on another critical national assignment—moderating the 2025 National Dialogue on Financing for Development, organized by ActionAid Nigeria in partnership with the Tax Justice and Governance Steering Committee, including BudgIT, the Centre for Social Justice, and the Centre for Leadership and Development.
The Dialogue convened senior representatives from major government agencies, including the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Debt Management Office (DMO), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Federal Ministry of Environment, and Office of the President. Also in attendance were lawmakers from the National Assembly Committees on Finance and Appropriations, as well as the Fiscal Responsibility Commission.
The event was particularly significant in shaping Nigeria’s official stance ahead of the 4th Financing for Development Summit in Seville, Spain, scheduled for June 2025. The Dialogue served as a platform to align national priorities with global financing trends, especially around climate finance, tax justice, and debt sustainability.
Ogwu emphasized the importance of informed engagement on both the global and local stage:
“Our capacity to drive inclusive growth depends on how well we connect innovation with strategic policy frameworks. Whether it’s commercial space ventures or development financing, Africa must lead with clarity and cohesion.”
With these two major roles, Sunday Micheal Ogwu continues to cement his reputation as a trusted facilitator of transformative policy conversations, bridging the gap between government, civil society, and the innovation ecosystem.
