The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kebbi Area Command, has reintroduced periodic medical checkups and weekly fitness exercises as part of renewed efforts to enhance the health, morale, and operational efficiency of its officers.
The initiative was launched on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the Command’s headquarters, with Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Chidi Chukwumeziri Nwokorie, leading the charge.
Speaking at the event, Comptroller Nwokorie explained that the exercise reflects the vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), who advocates for a balanced approach to work and health—what he described as “Work-Life Balance.”
“This is not just a formality or a compulsory routine,” Nwokorie told officers during his opening remarks. “It is a proactive step to help everyone monitor their health status and stay physically fit, particularly in view of the demanding nature of our duties, especially the ongoing fight against smuggling.”
He further announced that medical checkups would now take place every two weeks, while weekly physical training sessions are mandatory for all personnel. The objective, he said, is to build physical and mental resilience among officers and ensure the Command remains combat-ready for the service’s critical operations.
The launch event concluded with a series of sporting activities, including football, basketball, and table tennis, which saw officers actively participating in the spirit of teamwork and fitness.
Public Relations Officer for the Kebbi Area Command, Superintendent Mohammed Tajuddeen Salisu, confirmed the development in a statement, reiterating the Controller’s commitment to fostering a healthier, more agile Customs workforce.
The Kebbi Command’s renewed focus on health and physical readiness is seen as a strategic step in reinforcing its capability to tackle cross-border smuggling and other economic crimes effectively.
