As Nigeria intensifies efforts to transition toward cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions, stakeholders across the energy, transport, and finance sectors will converge at the 2025 Oriental News Nigeria National Conference to explore the strategic role of gas in driving national energy security and economic growth.
The high-level conference, themed “Integrating Nigeria’s Gas Potentials into Strategic Energy Transition Initiatives,” is scheduled to hold on July 24, 2025, at Radisson Blu Hotel, GRA Ikeja, Lagos. The event will be chaired by Professor Bart Nnaji, former Minister of Power and Chairman of Geometric Power Limited.
In a major endorsement of the conference’s relevance, Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has been confirmed as the keynote speaker, underscoring the company’s pivotal role in the country’s gas industry and energy transition agenda.
Organized by STANMEG Communications, publishers of Oriental News Nigeria, the conference marks the fourth edition of the influential summit, which brings together top-tier experts, policymakers, regulators, and industry operators to evaluate the nation’s progress on critical energy policies and reforms.
Key Focus Areas
In line with Nigeria’s “Decade of Gas” policy and the recent Presidential CNG Initiative, the 2025 summit will provide a platform to critically examine how well the country is utilizing its vast gas resources to improve energy access, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and stimulate economic growth.
The sub-themes for this year’s gathering include:
- Enhancing Energy Security and Efficiency Through Effective Gas Utilization
- Evaluating Regulatory Frameworks for Sustainable CNG Adoption in Nigeria’s Transportation Industry
- Adaptation of Renewable Energy Policy and Gas Utilization Strategies in Power Generation
- Evaluating the Decade of Gas Policy and Broad Spectrum Gas Utilization Strategies
- Reinforcing CNG and LPG Strategies to Address Emissions and Climate Impacts in the Transport Sector
- Building Local Content Synergy Between the Insurance Industry and the Oil and Gas Sector
Panel sessions will dissect each of these topics, bringing fresh perspectives and proposing actionable solutions that align with the government’s energy security roadmap.
Energy Realities and Transition Challenges
Nigeria, with an estimated population of over 200 million and only 50% energy access, faces one of the world’s most urgent energy challenges. While global momentum leans toward defunding fossil fuel projects in favor of renewables, Nigeria continues to position natural gas as a critical transition fuel to bridge its energy deficit and support industrialization.
Despite abundant reserves—particularly in non-associated gas—Nigeria’s domestic gas market remains largely underdeveloped. Experts blame a mix of weak infrastructure, pricing issues, and legal bottlenecks, even as the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021 and other policies attempt to remedy these gaps.
“Unless we can attract investment, reduce regulatory burdens, and build confidence in gas infrastructure projects, we risk missing the opportunity to anchor our economy on a clean and sustainable energy source,” organizers note.
Spotlight on Transport Sector and Emissions
The transport sector, responsible for over 90% of goods and passenger movement and contributing about 3% of Nigeria’s GDP, is a major fossil fuel consumer and carbon emitter. With over 11 million vehicles on the road, largely powered by petrol and diesel, the switch to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is seen as critical to curbing emissions and reducing energy costs following fuel subsidy removal.
The summit will probe the National Automotive Design and Development Council’s (NADDC) data and align it with strategies to decarbonize the sector while maintaining economic viability.
A Platform for Collaboration
With contributions expected from leading figures across government agencies, regulatory institutions, energy companies, and finance and insurance sectors, the 2025 Oriental News Nigeria Conference is designed to foster partnerships and craft forward-looking strategies for a gas-driven economy.
“Through rich discussions and high-level stakeholder engagement, the conference aims to generate practical insights and sustainable pathways that can guide Nigeria’s energy transition, not just for now, but for the future,” said Yemisi Izuora, Publisher and Editor, Oriental News Nigeria.
The event is open to policymakers, industry players, academia, civil society organizations, and international development partners invested in Nigeria’s energy future.
