In a bid to support vulnerable communities amid rising economic challenges, the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has commenced the distribution of 10,000 bags of rice to families in Bayelsa State. The food relief initiative targets the less privileged, persons with disabilities, widows, and other vulnerable groups.
The rice distribution exercise, which took place in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, is part of the Foundation’s National Food Intervention Programme designed to reach over one million disadvantaged Nigerians across all 774 local government areas in the country.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who represented Governor Douye Diri, commended the Dangote Foundation for its longstanding commitment to humanitarian causes and for partnering with the state government to enhance food security.
“We sincerely appreciate Alhaji Aliko Dangote for his generosity and for supporting our rice farming efforts as an offtaker. This partnership is helping us develop the agricultural value chain in Bayelsa,” Senator Ewhrudjakpo said.
He further urged Nigerians to emulate Dangote’s philanthropic spirit, saying, “For over three decades, he has shown that success is not only measured by wealth but also by the lives you touch.”
Also speaking at the event, the Head of Operations of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Mr. Edero Victor Ejiro, highlighted that the initiative is part of the Foundation’s commitment to reducing hunger and supporting state governments’ efforts in improving food security.
“We are distributing 10,000 bags of 10kg rice to vulnerable residents across Bayelsa. This initiative is designed to complement state government interventions and alleviate the hardship being faced by many Nigerians. Our distribution spans all local government areas nationwide,” Ejiro explained.
He assured the public that the Bayelsa State Government had put in place a transparent process to ensure that the rice gets to the targeted beneficiaries.
Representing people with disabilities in the state, the Chairman of the Bayelsa State chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JNAPWD), Ekpomokumor Mayor, expressed appreciation to the Foundation for remembering the most vulnerable members of society during difficult times.
With the flag-off completed, the rice distribution will continue in the eight local government areas of Bayelsa, with councillors and ward leaders overseeing the allocation to ensure the food reaches the intended recipients.
The Aliko Dangote Foundation, which has been active for over 30 years, continues to lead impactful interventions in nutrition, education, and economic empowerment across Nigeria.
