When the Hustle Meets Honour: Anchoring Capital Market Law Workshop Before Nigeria’s Judicial Icons

They say the bills don’t sleep, and neither does the hustle. But sometimes, the hustle opens doors to rooms where history, honour, and personal growth converge.

That was the experience for one anchor who stood not behind a television screen or at a routine corporate event, but before a gathering of Nigeria’s foremost legal minds,  Supreme Court Justices, appellate court judges, and top regulators. The occasion: a two-day Knowledge Sharing Workshop on Capital Market Law, Ethics, and Judicial Interpretations, jointly organised by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the National Judicial Institute (NJI).

The event was held at the Andrews Otutu Obaseki Auditorium of the National Judicial Institute in Jabi, Abuja, a space where legal precision meets policy influence.

“I’ve hosted many events in my life,” the anchor recalled, “but none have ever carried the weight of this one. It wasn’t just a job. It was a moment that made me pause and reflect on how far hard work can take you.”

It wasn’t just about the event. It was about who was in the room. The anchor stood before:

Hon. Justice Stephen Jonah Adah, Justice of the Supreme Court

Hon. Justice G.O. Kolawole, Justice of the Court of Appeal

Hon. Justice Mary Ukaego Peter-Odili, CFR, JSC (Rtd), Former Justice of the Supreme Court

Hon. Justice Salisu Garba Abdullahi, Administrator of the NJI

Dr. Emomotimi Agama, Director-General of the SEC

For someone more accustomed to commanding attention through the power of voice and words, earning spontaneous applause from these judicial titans felt surreal.

“Justice Mary Odili looked at me with that warm, knowing gaze. And when the applause came, I froze for a split second. It wasn’t just clapping,  it was validation,” the anchor said. “It reminded me that even in quiet seasons when it feels like no one sees your grind, someone always is.”

The workshop itself delved deep into the evolving dynamics of Nigeria’s capital market, exploring how judicial interpretations and ethical standards can strengthen investor confidence and protect public interest. But for the anchor, the most profound insight came off-script.

“There’s something deeply human about witnessing the convergence of law and finance. Behind every regulation, there are people. Behind every policy, a principle. And behind every moment like this — a journey,” they reflected.

This wasn’t just another gig. It was a reminder that every sleepless night, every rehearsed line, every little step in the hustle, can lead to a platform of significance.

In a country where many grind tirelessly for a seat at the table, this was not just a seat, it was a microphone handed over in trust, surrounded by the best of the bench and the regulators who shape national economies.

And so, the hustle continues. But this time, with new fire. Because now it’s clear: when purpose meets preparation, and hustle meets honour,  the result is applause not just from the crowd, but from the soul.
