Peace flight operating on the Lagos-Enugu route was forced to return to base on Wednesday morning following a bird strike shortly after takeoff, the airline has confirmed.

Flight P47100, which departed from Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, was en route to Enugu when it encountered the bird strike, prompting the crew to initiate an emergency air return in line with aviation safety protocols.

In a statement issued by the airline, Air Peace spokesperson, Efe Osifo-Whiskey, said the decision to return was made to allow for comprehensive safety checks on the aircraft. She assured passengers and the public that no lives were endangered and that the airline acted swiftly in accordance with its safety-first policy.

“We sincerely empathize with our passengers over the inconvenience caused and appeal for your patience and understanding as we work diligently to minimize disruptions,” the statement read.

Bird strikes are a known risk in the aviation industry and typically occur during takeoff or landing. While they rarely result in serious incidents, they can compromise the mechanical integrity of an aircraft, particularly the engines.

Passengers on board the flight were safely disembarked in Lagos and were offered alternative travel arrangements.

Air Peace, a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards across its operations. The airline also thanked its passengers for their continued loyalty and support during the disruption.

Flight operations across the airline’s network have since resumed, with the affected aircraft undergoing full technical inspection.

Passengers are advised to check the airline’s website, www.flyairpeace.com, or its official social media handles for further updates on rescheduled flights and operational notices.
