Union Bank of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive education and social impact by celebrating the academic achievements of visually impaired students at the graduation ceremony of the Pacelli School for the Blind and Partially Sighted.
The event, held on July 23 at the school’s premises in Lagos, highlighted the resilience and determination of students living with visual impairments. It also underscored the importance of equal access to education for all, regardless of physical ability.
Union Bank, a 108-year-old financial institution with a strong track record of corporate social responsibility, participated in the ceremony through its CSR platform, UnionCares. The initiative focuses on supporting vulnerable groups, enhancing access to education, and improving community well-being.
Speaking at the event, the Bank’s Chief Brand and Marketing Officer, Olufunmilola Aluko, praised the students for their perseverance and determination.
“Union Bank proudly stands as a champion of inclusiveness and equitable representation,” Aluko said. “Through our UnionCares initiative, we are committed to supporting vulnerable and underrepresented communities. We celebrate the incredible achievements of these students and remain dedicated to helping them realise their full potential.”
UnionCares supports a range of impactful initiatives, including:
- Empowerment of vulnerable groups, particularly persons with disabilities;
- Access to education and skills development to promote self-reliance;
- Community-focused projects aimed at improving health, education, and welfare.
Union Bank said it is honoured to partner with institutions like Pacelli School that uplift and empower marginalised groups. The Bank restated its pledge to champion programmes that drive positive change and foster a more inclusive society across Nigeria.
