As Nigeria’s aviation sector battles longstanding funding limitations, the 29th edition of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) Annual Conference is poised to offer new direction and practical solutions to address the industry’s financing gaps.
The event, scheduled for Thursday, August 7, 2025, will take place at The Providence Hotel, GRA Ikeja, Lagos. Themed “Aviation Financing in Nigeria: The Risks, Opportunities and Prospects,” this year’s gathering is expected to challenge outdated financial models and spotlight innovative tools to support growth, especially in the wake of ongoing fiscal and monetary reforms.
Stakeholders to Shape Future of Aviation Finance
The conference will bring together major players across the air transport value chain, including airline operators, airport managers, aviation regulators, fuel marketers, insurers, financiers, and leasing companies. They will examine funding challenges and explore opportunities to unlock investment in Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure and operations.
Dr. Gabriel Gbenga Olowo, Chairman of Sabre for Central and West Africa and a prominent voice in aviation economics, will deliver the keynote address. Known for his strategic insight and experience in air transport distribution, Olowo is expected to propose empirical financing solutions informed by global best practices.
Also expected to address participants is the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, who will speak on the government’s financing policies and the increasing importance of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in driving sectoral transformation.
The Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Chris Najomo, will deliver a goodwill message, reinforcing the regulator’s role in creating a safe and investor-friendly business climate.
Chairing the conference is Mr. Gbenga Alade, Managing Director/CEO of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), whose experience in financial restructuring is expected to lend weight to discussions around creative financing structures for airlines and airport projects.
Aligning with Economic Reform Goals
Speaking ahead of the event, LAAC Conference Planning Committee Chairman, Wole Shadare, noted that this year’s theme is in line with the Tinubu administration’s broader economic transformation agenda.
“The 29th LAAC Conference is not just another meeting—it’s a strategic platform to deliver actionable insights for sustainable aviation financing,” said Shadare. “We’re committed to offering thought leadership that can help reposition Nigeria’s aviation sector as a viable investment destination.”
Conference Topics to Include:
- Aircraft leasing and acquisition frameworks
- Infrastructure development through PPPs
- Funding for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities

In addition to panel discussions and technical sessions, the conference will feature the launch of a commemorative publication titled “Celebrating Champions of Aviation Development.” The compendium will honour individuals, organisations, and state governments that have significantly contributed to Nigeria’s aviation progress since 1999.
The event has received endorsements from industry regulators, local and foreign airlines, ground handling companies, terminal concessionaires, state governments, and financial institutions—further validating LAAC’s role as a critical platform for advancing the aviation industry.
