Nigeria’s telecom regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), and key industry players like IHS Towers, 9mobile, and Digital Realty are set to lead conversations at the Maiden CNII & Telecom Sustainability Conference 2025, taking place on August 7 in Lagos.

The conference, jointly hosted by the Nigeria Information Technology Reporters Association (NITRA) and the Association of Licensed Telecom Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), will focus on implementing the new Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII) Order, signed into law in June 2024.

With the theme “Telecoms Industry Sustainability and the CNII Act – Way Forward,” the event will bring together major stakeholders, including the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, and representatives from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Peace Corps Nigeria.

Dr. Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, and the President of the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON) will deliver keynote speeches. A special presentation by IHS Towers will focus on Nigeria’s telecom infrastructure status, while panelists will discuss the roles of government, regulators, operators, and consumers in enforcing the CNII Order.

Key discussion points include:

  • Practical steps for enforcing the CNII Order
  • Roles of different stakeholders
  • Collaboration strategies for infrastructure security
  • Public awareness of CNII provisions
  • Long-term telecom sustainability goals

According to NITRA General Secretary, Mr. Chidiebere Nwankwo, the conference offers a timely platform for reflection and strategy.

“This event is key because it brings stakeholders to a roundtable to review, correct, and realign the CNII implementation process. It should become a regular platform for progress,” he said.

ALTON Chairman, Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, and NITRA Chairman, Mr. Chike Onwuegbuchi, will officially welcome participants, emphasizing collaboration as essential to securing Nigeria’s digital future.

The conference underscores growing efforts to protect national telecom assets, align industry operations with national security goals, and sustain the sector’s growth amid rising threats.
