The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has awarded its Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certification to Salid Agriculture’s newly commissioned shea butter processing plant in Niger State.

The plant, officially opened on August 7, 2025, is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s agro-processing sector by producing high-quality shea butter for both local and export markets. SON said the certification confirms the facility meets strict safety and quality standards, giving its products a competitive edge globally.

SON Director-General, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwumere, described the move as a model for agricultural industrialisation. “This certification is a guarantee that Nigerian shea butter can compete anywhere in the world,” he said.

Salid Agriculture’s Managing Director, Mrs. Hauwa Ibrahim, said the project would empower over 5,000 rural women involved in shea nut collection and processing. “Our mission is to transform local potential into global competitiveness,” she stated.

Industry watchers say the development supports the Federal Government’s push for non-oil exports under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), with the shea butter sector alone valued at over $2 billion globally.
