The Governing Board of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has pledged firm support for the Agency’s Executive Management in delivering on its mandate and driving Nigeria’s Blue Economy agenda.
At its inaugural meeting in Lagos, Board Chairman Hon. Yusuf Hamisu Abubakar assured that the Board would work closely with the Management to implement policies and projects that will strengthen the maritime sector.
He noted that NIMASA had already signed a performance bond with the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, with clear Key Performance Indicators to measure progress. “We are determined to help shape policy direction and ensure targets are met,” Abubakar said, expressing confidence in the Executive team’s capacity.
Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola, welcomed the Board’s commitment, stressing that their backing would boost efforts to promote and regulate shipping, enhance maritime safety and security, and protect the marine environment.
He added that NIMASA would continue to engage the Board and stakeholders to improve investment opportunities, upgrade maritime infrastructure, and build skilled manpower in line with the Federal Government’s vision for a sustainable Blue Economy.
This alignment between governance and execution, industry watchers say, could unlock Nigeria’s maritime potential and strengthen its role in global shipping.
