The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has assured motorists that Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) is a safe, cost-effective, and cleaner alternative to petrol.
In posts on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, SON dismissed fears about CNG safety, saying it has been tested and proven to meet strict standards. The agency urged drivers to switch, noting that the fuel option cuts costs, reduces emissions, and preserves engine health.
“Get rid of the thought that you’re putting your life at risk when you switch to CNG. Don’t be left behind—make the switch today,” SON said.
In a more informal appeal on August 6, the organisation added: “If you wan enjoy your motor wella without fear say your money go dey finish, just go convert am to CNG. E no cost reach petrol, e dey clean, and e no dey spoil engine.”
The push aligns with Nigeria’s broader drive to cut petrol dependence, lower carbon footprints, and make transportation more affordable for citizens.
