President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved new boards for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) in a move aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s digital infrastructure and expanding ICT access.
Idris Olorunnimbe will serve as Chairman of the NCC, while Dr. Aminu Maida retains his role as Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, a position he assumed in October 2023 and was confirmed by the Senate in November of that year.
Olorunnimbe, known for his work in youth employment and entrepreneurship during his tenure on the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund Board, will lead a team that includes:
- Abraham Oshidami – Executive Commissioner, Technical Services
- Rimini Makama – Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management
- Hajia Maryam Bayi – Former Director, Human Capital & Administration
- Col. Abdulwahab Lawal (Rtd)
- Senator Lekan Mustafa
- Chris Okorie
- Princess Oforitsenere Emiko
- Board Secretary
For the USPF, Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, will serve as Chairman, with Olorunnimbe as Vice Chairman. Other members include Oshidami, Makama, Aliyu Edogi Aliyu, Joseph B. Faluyi, Auwal Mohammed, Uzoma Dozie, Peter Bankole, Abayomi Anthony Okanlawon, Gafar Oluwasegun Quadri, and the USPF Secretary.
The USPF was established to drive universal access to ICT services, particularly in rural, unserved, and underserved areas across Nigeria.
The appointments were announced on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, in a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
