Ogun gov votes, commends peaceful conduct, turnout

Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, on Saturday cast his vote in the ongoing House of Representatives Remo Federal constituency by-election at Polling Unit 002, Ita Osanyin, Iperu Ward 3 in the Ikenne Local Government Area of the state.

Abiodun, while speaking with newsmen after voting, hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission for its preparedness to ensure the success of the election.

The governor said that he was impressed that electoral materials arrived early.

Abiodun explained, “I have just exercised my franchise. I am quite impressed with the feedback I got this morning that the electoral materials arrived early. There is also an impressive turnout.

“Everybody is going about voting peacefully. In some places, maybe because of the weather, the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machine took some time to capture. So far, everything is so good.

“I want to thank INEC for being on top of their game as usual. Obviously, year in, year out, they are improving the quality of their services. Basically, everything is going well. No ranchor, no fighting”.

Meanwhile, there was a heavy presence of security personnel across major streets in Sagamu, Ikenne and Remo North local governments as the by-election into the Remo Federal constituency commenced.

Our correspondent who monitored the election reported that the turnout was impressive, while security officials were sighted at strategic locations in order to ensure a peaceful election.

Officials of the Nigerian Army, police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and FRSC mounted the major roads to enforce the restriction order on movement.

Also, security officials were stationed at each polling unit to maintain law and order, while the electoral process so far had been peaceful across the various polling units visited.

There was a massive turnout of voters at Westley Primary School, Iperu, polling booth, unit 004, ward 5, Westley School, Ogere, unit 002, ward 7, both in Ikenne local government.

Also, at polling unit 7, ward 2, Iga Olusi, Sagamu, there was a massive turnout of voters and the presence of security personnel.
