In a symbolic moment that underscored unity and renewed commitment to advancing Nigeria’s tourism industry, the Honourable Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, alongside the Board of Trustees Chairman of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN), Alhaji Munzali Dantata, formally presented the Certificate of Return to Franklin Iherjirika, confirming him as the FTAN Public Relations Officer (PRO) South.

The ceremony, which took place in the Minister’s office in Abuja, carried both personal and institutional weight. For Franklin Iherjirika, a respected voice in Nigeria’s travel and tourism landscape, it was more than an official endorsement—it was a call to amplify the voice of tourism stakeholders across the southern region. For FTAN, it marked a step toward strengthening advocacy and ensuring wider representation in its mission to reposition tourism as a driver of national development.

Reflecting on the occasion, Iherjirika described the moment as both humbling and energizing. “This certificate is not just a piece of paper—it is a responsibility to project the aspirations of Nigeria’s tourism community and to bridge the gap between government, private sector players, and ordinary Nigerians whose livelihoods depend on tourism,” he said.

A Track Record in Tourism Advocacy

Franklin Iherjirika is not new to the spotlight of Nigeria’s tourism and creative industries. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a communications strategist, tourism promoter, and passionate advocate for sustainable development through travel and culture. His career spans leadership roles in tourism associations, active participation in industry conferences, and visible contributions to policy dialogues that shape the future of Nigeria’s tourism ecosystem.

As the publisher of widely respected tourism and hospitality platforms, Iherjirika has consistently championed narratives that highlight Nigeria’s diverse destinations, cultural wealth, and investment opportunities. His work has been instrumental in giving visibility to small-scale operators, bridging the gap between policymakers and the grassroots, and creating platforms where tourism’s role in job creation and economic growth is clearly articulated.

He has also collaborated with international tourism stakeholders, showcasing Nigeria at global fora, and advocating for policies that align local operators with global best practices. His efforts have earned him recognition within and beyond Nigeria’s tourism circles, positioning him as a credible voice for the sector.

Government’s Call for Collaboration

Speaking at the event, Minister Musawa emphasized the importance of synergy between government and industry stakeholders, noting that effective collaboration is critical if Nigeria is to harness its rich cultural heritage, diverse attractions, and creative economy as pillars of a trillion-dollar economy.

Alhaji Munzali Dantata, the BoT Chairman of FTAN, commended the commitment of the association’s executives and expressed confidence that the new leadership structure, with professionals like Iherjirika at the forefront, will bring renewed visibility, stronger partnerships, and fresh momentum to the sector.

Looking Ahead

The presentation was also a moment of reflection on FTAN’s journey as the umbrella body for tourism associations in Nigeria. Over the years, it has championed policies, pushed for investment in tourism infrastructure, and created platforms for dialogue among stakeholders. With leaders like Iherjirika stepping into new roles, many believe that tourism’s narrative in Nigeria is poised for a stronger, more people-centered impact.

For the wider community of tourism operators, the event signaled a hopeful reminder: the sector’s growth lies not only in government plans but also in the dedication of individuals and associations who continue to push boundaries, promote Nigeria’s image, and create opportunities for jobs and wealth through tourism
