The deadline for entries into the 11th edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition has been extended by two weeks, moving from the original August 22, 2025 closing date to Friday, September 5, 2025.

Announcing the extension, Mr. Uzodinma Odenigbo, Corporate Affairs Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc, said the decision followed several appeals from teachers nationwide who requested additional time to complete their submissions.

“We’ve received overwhelming interest from teachers across the country who asked for more time to prepare and submit their entries. This extension ensures that more deserving teachers can showcase their passion and dedication to the profession,” Odenigbo explained.

The competition, open to all secondary school teachers across Nigeria, has grown into one of the country’s most respected platforms for celebrating excellence in education. Since its inception in 2015, the Maltina Teacher of the Year has not only rewarded individual teachers but also uplifted schools and inspired a culture of respect for the teaching profession.

This year’s winner will walk away with a prestigious trophy, a total cash prize of ₦10 million, an international capacity development training, and a ₦30 million school infrastructure project for their institution. The first and second runners-up will receive ₦5 million and ₦3 million respectively, alongside trophies, while state champions will each earn ₦1 million and recognition plaques.

Interested teachers are urged to apply by visiting www.maltinateacheroftheyear.com to complete their forms online or download and submit them via email to maltinateacheroftheyear@heineken.com.

The Maltina Teacher of the Year is funded through the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, established in 1994 to strengthen education in Nigeria in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on quality education.

Reflecting on its impact over the past decade, the initiative has become more than a competition—it is a movement rekindling pride in the teaching profession, rewarding excellence, and reminding the nation that education remains the foundation for progress.
