Lagos Airport Fencing Project: MAN Calls for Nigeria-First Procurement to Boost Local Industry

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has urged the Federal Government to prioritize local companies in the procurement of materials for the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) perimeter fencing and security surveillance project. The call aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Nigeria First Policy and Executive Orders 003 and 005.

In a statement, MAN Director-General Segun Ajayi-Kadir emphasized that Nigerian manufacturers have the technical expertise to produce Clear Vu fencing that meets global standards, warning against importing the materials from abroad.

“While foreign suppliers are competent, Nigerian companies are fully capable of delivering fencing materials of equal — if not superior — quality. Sourcing locally ensures jobs for our youth, saves foreign exchange, strengthens our industrial base, and increases government revenue,” Ajayi-Kadir said.

The association highlighted that similar projects in the past overlooked local suppliers, citing a previous airport fencing contract where materials were imported from South Africa despite domestic capacity. MAN sees the Lagos Airport project as an opportunity for the government to demonstrate that Nigeria First is a tangible policy, not just a principle.

MAN stressed that its appeal is patriotic, aimed at aligning procurement with national interest, rather than influencing contract awards. The association reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government initiatives that promote local industry, inclusive growth, and the well-being of Nigerians.
