The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has repatriated Dai Qisheng, a Chinese national described by as a notorious gang leader wanted for violent organised crimes in his home country.
In a statement released on Sunday, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force spokesperson said the successful operation was carried out through collaboration with the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol).
According to the statement, Qisheng had been declared wanted in Guizhou Province, China, after the Public Security Bureau of Zhijin County issued an arrest warrant in 2024.
He allegedly fled China shortly afterwards and sought refuge in Nigeria.
The Interpol National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abuja traced and arrested Qisheng in the Federal Capital Territory on August 8. Within a week, he was flown back to Beijing on August 15 under a police-to-police cooperation framework facilitated by Interpol, with the support of NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria.
The Police described the repatriation as a major step in curbing transnational organised crime, stressing that Nigeria would not be allowed to become a safe haven for fugitives.
“This operation not only reaffirms the Nigeria Police Force’s resolve to ensure that no fugitive finds a safe haven within Nigeria but also reflects the strength of international partnerships in addressing the increasingly complex threats of global crime networks,” he said.
Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector-General of Police also commended the operation, noting that it demonstrated the value of global security cooperation. He said the arrest and transfer of Qisheng should serve as a strong warning to criminals around the world that Nigeria will not provide cover for those seeking to evade justice.
