Nestlé Professional, the out-of-home business unit of Nestlé Nigeria, has trained more than 250 food vendors, caterers, grillers, and canteen operators in Bauchi State through its Business of Food workshop, aimed at strengthening small businesses in Nigeria’s growing foodservice industry.
The training, which has now reached its 11th edition, provides participants with practical skills to run profitable and hygienic food enterprises while delivering nutritious meals. Since its inception, the initiative has empowered over 2,600 food entrepreneurs across 11 states.
Speaking at the Bauchi event, Nestlé Professional Nigeria’s Business Manager, Ibraheem Awelenje, said the program is designed to help food vendors move beyond survival and build sustainable businesses.
“Our vision is to see food vendors thrive,” he said. “Bauchi’s food entrepreneurs are rooted in tradition but eager to innovate. By connecting them with skills, ideas, and networks, we are supporting enterprises that feed families, create jobs, and preserve our rich culinary heritage.”
Organized in partnership with the Bauchi State Association of Caterers and Food Vendors, the workshop covered areas such as menu planning, hygiene, pricing, customer service, and food styling. It also featured a live masterclass by renowned Nigerian chef, Chef Paulina, who demonstrated creative approaches to local dishes like Dafadukan Shinkafa Da Awara.
The program climaxed with a cooking challenge where participants showcased their creativity. Judges evaluated taste, presentation, and innovation, with winners celebrated for their efforts.
For participants, the training proved transformative. Justina Stephen, Managing Director of Justfine Restaurants, said the sessions opened new possibilities for her business.
“The training has shown me how to better plan my menu and price meals for increased profit. It has been an eye-opening experience,” she said.
Nestlé Professional emphasized that the Business of Food initiative reflects the company’s commitment to nutrition, entrepreneurship, and inclusive growth.
“At Nestlé, our purpose is to unlock the power of food to enhance quality of life today and for generations to come. The Business of Food program is one of the ways we bring that purpose to life,” Awelenje added.
