Air Peace, Nigeria’s largest privately-owned airline, faced flight disruptions on Monday, September 15, 2025, as heavy rainfall in Port Harcourt and Lagos caused delays across its domestic network. The airline confirmed the situation in an official statement, emphasizing that passenger safety remains its highest priority.
According to the airline’s spokesperson, Osifo-Whiskey Efe:
“Due to the heavy downpour of rain in Lagos and Port Harcourt this morning, some flights across our operating networks will be delayed. While weather is beyond our control, we appeal for passengers’ understanding as we manage the disruptions and get you to your destinations safely.”
Passengers quickly turned to social media to share their experiences, posting images and videos of crowded terminals, long check-in lines, and access roads flooded by the torrential rain. Many expressed frustration, but also understanding, highlighting the delicate balance airlines must maintain between operational efficiency and safety during severe weather.
This incident recalls past weather-related challenges in Nigeria’s aviation sector. August 2023 saw similar flight delays in Lagos due to flooding, while Harmattan haze in 2024 caused widespread disruptions across multiple airports. Aviation experts say such events underscore the urgent need for improved infrastructure, advanced weather monitoring, and stronger contingency planning.
Air Peace reassured travelers that assistance is available through its call center and email for flight inquiries. The airline reiterated that safety is not just a priority but a core commitment to passengers and crew.
