Top Energy Experts, Policymakers Set to Shape Nigeria’s Digital Oil and Gas Future at NAN Press Week

Nigeria’s energy sector is set to take centre stage as notable industry experts, policymakers, and stakeholders gather in Lagos to chart a digital-driven future at the 2025 News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Press Week Lecture.

The annual event, which will run from Monday, Sept. 22, to Friday, Sept. 26, promises a rich line-up of discussions, cultural activities, and health-focused initiatives. The announcement was made in a joint statement issued by Mrs. Vivian Ihechu, Chairman of the Press Week Committee, and Mr. Adeyemi Adeleye, Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), NAN Lagos Chapel.

Ihechu, Assistant Editor-In-Chief at NAN, disclosed that this year’s theme — “Transforming Energy: The Digital Evolution of Oil and Gas” — underscores the pivotal role of energy in powering economies, businesses, and everyday life. She explained that the lecture will provide a platform to examine how digital technologies are reshaping Nigeria’s oil and gas landscape and driving sustainable growth.

Week-long Programme Highlights
The activities begin on Sept. 22 with a health walk and free medical check-up tagged “Stride Toward a Healthier You.” The walk will start by 9 a.m. from Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, and end at NAN Premises, National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.

On Sept. 23, focus will shift to Cultural Day, which will be hosted at NAN’s Multi-purpose Media Complex, National Theatre, Iganmu, beginning at 10 a.m. The event is designed to celebrate Nigeria’s diverse heritage, deepen appreciation of its multi-ethnic identity, and promote unity in diversity.

The central event of the week takes place on Sept. 24 with the lecture and symposium on “Transforming Energy: The Digital Evolution of Oil and Gas.” It will be hosted at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Main Hall Sports Centre, opposite Eko Club, Surulere, Lagos, starting at 11 a.m.

Industry Leaders to Speak
The keynote lecture will be delivered by Mr. Ismaeel Ahmed, Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi). Discussions will explore digital transformation in oil and gas, highlighting its potential to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, improve decision-making, and encourage innovation.

Other confirmed speakers include:

  • Dr. Clement Isong, CEO, Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN)
  • Dr. Muda Yusuf, CEO, Centre for the Promotion of Private Enterprise (CPPE)
  • Prof. Wumi Iledare, Emeritus Professor of Petroleum Economics, Louisiana State University
  • Mr. Olohungbo Jimoh, Lagos State Commissioner of Police

Chairman of the occasion will be Mr. Wole Ogunsanya, Chairman of the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN) and MD/CEO of Geoplex Drillteq Ltd.

Ihechu emphasised that the 2025 Press Week reflects NAN Lagos Chapel’s commitment to fostering dialogue, collaboration, and professional excellence.

“This year’s Press Week is not only about celebration but also about shaping meaningful conversations around energy transition, technology adoption, and national development,” she said. “It promises to be insightful, impactful, and solution-driven.”

Nigeria’s top energy experts, policymakers, and industry leaders will converge at the 2025 NAN Press Week in Lagos to explore “Transforming Energy: The Digital Evolution of Oil and Gas.” The week-long event runs from Sept. 22–26 with lectures, cultural showcases, and health activities.
