Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) Plc has secured a landmark partnership with Air Tanzania to provide comprehensive ground handling operations at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, marking the Tanzanian carrier’s first entry into Nigeria.

Air Tanzania, the national flag carrier of the United Republic of Tanzania, will now operate three weekly flights from its hub at Julius Nyerere International Airport, Dar es Salaam, to Lagos, with SAHCO overseeing all ground services, including passenger handling, baggage, ramp operations, cargo handling, and warehousing.

A Vote of Confidence in SAHCO’s Expertise

Confirming the development, Mrs. Adetola Vanessa Uansohia, Head of Corporate Communications at SAHCO, described the agreement as a major step in consolidating SAHCO’s reputation as Nigeria’s leading ground handling company.

In her remarks, SAHCO’s Managing Director/CEO, Mrs. Adenike Aboderin, expressed delight at the new partnership:

“We are thrilled to welcome Air Tanzania to Lagos and are honored they have chosen SAHCO Plc as their trusted ground handling partner. This contract is a testament to our team’s expertise, state-of-the-art equipment, and unwavering dedication to operational excellence and safety. We are fully prepared to support Air Tanzania’s new service, ensuring a seamless and efficient experience for their passengers and cargo.”

Why SAHCO Stands Out

SAHCO is currently the only ground handling company with a presence across all commercially operated airports in Nigeria, a feat that underscores its reputation for reliability, speed, and global best practices. This wide network, coupled with its well-trained workforce and integrity-driven service delivery, has continued to attract international carriers seeking dependable ground handling services.

The company has also invested heavily in modern Ground Support Equipment (GSE) powered by alternative energy sources, designed to withstand Nigeria’s operational terrain while delivering zero carbon emissions—reinforcing SAHCO’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

Growing Recognition in Africa

SAHCO’s expertise has been recognized by leading airlines across Africa. Recently, Ethiopian Airlines, the continent’s largest carrier, also entrusted its Nigerian ground operations to SAHCO. Ethiopian Airlines now benefits from the same world-class handling services on its daily Addis Ababa–Lagos flights.

To further demonstrate its adherence to global safety and quality standards, SAHCO holds multiple international certifications, including RA3, ISAGO, ISO 9001, and ISO 27001. The company has also received numerous awards locally and internationally for excellence in aviation ground handling.

Its expansion into Nigeria, Africa’s largest aviation market, signals its growing ambition to strengthen intra-African connectivity and foster stronger economic and cultural ties between East and West Africa.

With this new collaboration, industry analysts believe both Air Tanzania and SAHCO stand to benefit—while passengers and businesses gain from safer, faster, and more efficient travel and cargo services.
